The Ford automobile company has been in business for more than a hundred years. It has developed a large base of loyal customers due mostly to the quality products it manufactures including trucks, cars and SUVs.

In 1903 Henry Ford founded his company in order to be able to mass manufacturer automobiles at an affordable price. The first vehicle his company produced was the Model A. Five years later the Model T was introduced. Over a twenty year period, Ford sold more than 16 million of their Model T cars. During the same period, the Ford company also developed an assembly line system for producing automobiles. Ford began offering luxury vehicles during the 1920s after buying the Lincoln Motor Company. Later in the decade the Mercury division was created. The following decade, Ford introduced the Lincoln Zephyr which had record sales of over 25 million.

After the second World War, Ford rolled out the Thunderbird which offered a perfect blend of performance and style. The Thunderbird was extremely popular with American car buyers. On the other hand, the Edsel was not a success, and was discontinued after only three years of production.

The Falcon and the Mustang began production in the 1960s. The Mustang provided a stylish form in a an affordable automobile, and achieved some of the highest sales records of all time.

Ford began changing its production lineup in the 70s, largely due to the economic problems of the times. By purchasing the Mazda corporation, Ford was able to create new projects and increase its competitive edge. A decade later Ford brought out the Taurus and the Escort. It also bought the Aston Martin and Jaguar brands.

In the 1990s, Ford launched its Explorer SUV which was a huge hit. At the end of the decade Ford also bought the Volvo and the Land Rover brands. By the turn of the millennium, the Ford name had earned a strong reputation for being the best automaker in existence. The increase in production costs incurred by the Jaguar, Aston Martin, Land Rover and Volvo models eventually forced Ford to sell the divisions.

Ford has recently added the Fiesta hatchback and sedan to its lineup. It also continues to manufacture the Mustang, the Fusion, the Focus, the Escape, the Edge, the Flex, the Explorer and the Expedition. The Mustang comes with a choice of V6 or V8 engines. Th Fusion sedan is also available as a hybrid model. The Focus with either a hatchback or sedan body style. The Escape is a compact SUV. While the Edge provides seating for five, the Flex has room for seven. The Explorer is being redesigned and the Expedition will provide three rows of seating for eight people.
