Buick is the luxury brand of General Motors and is the oldest American manufacturer. It was originally founded by David Buick in 1903 and was later purchased by William Durant as a new division to the General Motors Corporation. The first Buick vehicle was the 1907 Model B which generated power from its two cylinder engine. Within seven years, Buick had developed six cylinder engines for all of its models. Well known for its automotive innovations, Buick also has a loyal following of retirement age car buyers. The newest additions to the brand line up have helped to build up its base of younger customers.
In the 1920s Buick demonstrated its ingenuity with the development of its four wheel braking system. While the technology had been previously used with customized vehicles, it was the Buick corporation that determined how to apply the system to an entire production line. A decade later, Buick went on to introduce the extremely popular eight cylinder engine and the first flashing rear turning signal.
The Estate Wagon and Roadmaster were unveiled in the 40s along with the Dynaflow which offered the first automatic transmission with a torque converter. Throughout the 1950s and 60s Buick continued its advancements and introduced power steering and brakes to the American public.
Over the century Buick proved itself to be one of the top manufacturers of full sized luxury vehicles however due to poor economic times in the 70s and 80s led to the need to downsize and offer car buyers smaller more affordable and fuel efficient vehicles. In the 1990s Buick unveiled its muscle car, the Regal Grand National and its premier convertible and coupe, the Reatta.
Present day Buick concentrates on providing a line of crossover SUVs and sedans that will attract the younger car buying market. It still provides premier vehicles that offer elegance and class but its newer additions provide contemporary interior and exterior designs along with more capable handling.
The latest vehicles offered by Buick include the Enclave, the Encore, the Lacrosse, the Lucerne, and the Regal. The popular Buick Enclave is one of the best designs in the General Motors crossover line. It’s three rows of seats will accommodate seven or eight. The Encore compact SUV comes equipped with a four cylinder engine and a turbo automatic six speed transmission. The LaCrosse, Regal and Lucerne sedans are also top sellers of the Buick brand that provide luxury and state of the art technology.
